Cha-cha-cha-chia Almond Shake

This delicious shake is perfect for a mid day snack or a great drink to have before and/or after a long workout. Chia seeds are known as the “running food” because its use as a high energy endurance food has been recorded as far back as the ancient Aztecs. The chias, when mixed with a liquid, have a gel-forming reaction due to their soluble fiber. When the gel is formed in the stomach it creates a physical barrier between the carbohydrates and the digestive enzymes that break them down, thus slowing the conversion of carbs into sugar. Having the ability to absorb 12 times their weight in water offers the ability to prolong hydration. Chia seeds are also a great source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, phosphorus, dietary fiber and manganese.

This shake has just 4 ingredients: homemade almond milk, stevia, cinnamon and chia seeds. Such an easy to make and delicious drink so there are no excuses not to try it!

Ingredients:

2 cups of unsweetened almond milk

2 tbsp chia seeds

1-2 packets of stevia

couple dashes of cinnamon

Stir everything together in a glass and keep mixing for about 5 minutes so that the chia seeds don’t all stick together at the bottom of the class. Drink up and don’t forget to chew! Cheers!
